👧 1km Kids Race

Parents may run alongside younger children — no additional entry is required. This event is not timed or do we provide 1st,2nd and 3rd results. This is about participating and having fun and collecting a medal at the end

🏅 Finisher Medals

Every participant who crosses the finish line will receive an official Finisher’s Medal.

🏃‍♀️ Start & Finish Line

All events start and finish at Lahey Square, Barwon Heads (Park adjacent to Barwon Heads Hotel)
A warm-up and race briefing will take place 15 minutes before each start time near the start line.

Your official race time begins when you cross the start line, not when the horn sounds — so there’s no need to rush at the start!

🏁 WAVE STARTS & GUN TIME / CHIP TIME

To help reduce congestion at the start line and create a safer, more enjoyable experience for all participants, the Barwon Heads Running Festival will utilise wave starts for the Half Marathon and 10km events.
Wave starts will be self-managed, and we ask participants to position themselves honestly based on their expected finishing time or pace.
Faster runners should move towards the front waves, while slower runners and walkers should start in the later waves.
⏱️ Gun Time vs Chip Time
Your race bib contains an integrated timing chip which records your official race time.
Your timing chip will activate when you cross the start line timing mat and stop when you cross the finish line.
This means your official result is based on chip time, not gun time.

There is no advantage in rushing to the front if you are not in the appropriate wave, as the time taken to cross the start line after the race begins is not included in your official result.

🏃‍♂️ Half Marathon Waves
Wave 1 - Athletes expecting to finish in under 1 hour 40 minutes
Wave 2 - Athletes expecting to finish in 1 hour 40 minutes or slower
🏃‍♀️ 10km Waves

Wave 1 - Athletes expecting to average under 5:30 min/km
Wave 2 - Athletes expecting to average 5:31 min/km or slower
🏃 5km Run
The 5km event will utilise a single mass start with no wave allocations.
👧 1km Kids Race Waves
Wave 1 - Children aged 6 years and older
Wave 2 - Children aged 5 years and under
Parents are welcome to run alongside younger children at no additional cost.

📢 Please Note
Participants who deliberately start in an inappropriate wave may impact the safety and enjoyment of other runners.
We appreciate everyone working together to ensure a smooth and enjoyable start for all competitors.
